I was thinking today, The Royal Tenenbaums is such an underrated movie. I watched it over spring break for just the second time, and I love it. An all-star cast which includes Gene Hackman, Danny Glover, Ben Stiller, Luke and Owen Wilson, Gwneyth Paltrow, Bill Murray and Anjelica Huston portray the life of a very unique family, the Tenenbaums. It’s not just the acting or the storyline that make it great, though.
The cinematography of this movie is incredible. The camera angles and colors used change depending on the mood of the scene. Seriously, the colors that the actors wear and that are used in the background actually coincide with each scene.
For instance, a serious, depressing scene is characterized by dark, uninteresting colors like brown, gray and burnt orange.
Happier scenes, though there are few in this movie, contain bright, exciting colors like lime green, red and baby blue.
It’s pretty cool to see how colors totally affect our moods as movie watchers, and even day to day in real life. The Royal Tenenbaums truly embraces that.
Case and point: this movie is dope. Watch it with someone who’s seen it before, though, there’s one scene you have to watch out for.

I was just talking with one of the brothers in our campus ministry about how both of us are pretty prideful by nature. It’s amazing how many Scriptures there are in the Bible about pride and its counterpart, humility. These are some of my favorites, so if you think you need to humble out, keep reading…
Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Proverbs 13:10
Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
Proverbs 18:12
Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.
Matthew 23:11-12
The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Ephesians 4:2
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Philippians 2:3-11
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
1 Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
Did you know that one of the reasons we feel tired after a big meal is because blood flows from our brain to our stomach in order to begin the digestive process? Pretty cool, huh?
I’m at work right now with nothing to do, so I decided to go on facebook, which got me thinking. There are two types of people in the world: Those who go on facebook when they having nothing to do, and those who go on facebook so that they can live vicariously through it.
I identify with the first group. How about you?
I’m not saying that the second group is bad, just that those people have a different motivation than I do. I’m not gonna lie, I do get excited with double-digit notifications or a wall post from a long lost friend, but life goes beyond that. I’m more interested in pictures and videos of people’s lives than wall posts and comments from people’s facebook lives.
A life is full of moments; a facebook life is full of thoughts. Moments mean more than thoughts; therefore, life means more than facebook life.
Ladies and gentlemen, use your facebook not to live your life, but to share the life you live.
